What awaits you in the Vende:

Wine-tasting at a traditional (and wheelchair accessible) Vende Cave - a convivial and unforgettable introduction to the light and varied wines of the region.

For sports lovers: Rowing, pedalos and fishing within 2 miles; Go-Karting and tennis within 5 miles; golf, horse riding and canoeing just 9 miles away. There are many designated walking trails both by the sea and along the river valleys and routes dedicated to cyclists abound. Our closest village - Moutiers les Mauxfaits has walking trails and guided tours.

An invaluable source of information on the Vende (in English) can be found on Angela Birds web-site (www.the-vendee.co.uk) or if you wish to have to hand, all the information on this web-site and more, Angela has also written a comprehensive book on everything you could wish to know about the Vende entitled The Vende and surrounding area.

Some special activities for wheelchair users:

Like to join in the fun on the beach and in the sea? Beach buggies are available on some beaches.

For the more intrepid, try sand sailing with an expert in his dual seater sailing machine!

Do you enjoy fishing? There are several riverside and lakeside sites that have been made accessible.  For those wishing to spend an odd day out fishing and not wishing to bring tackle on holiday - visit the Etangs de Petite Nouerie, in Poiroux, just 15 minutes away. They will provide you with all the necessary equipment, there is even a bistro on the spot.

If you just like to visit places, many of our historic sites, nature reserves, museums and parks are also accessible.

There are many accessible places to visit in the Vende - here are just a few of our favourites:

  • Rserve Naturelle de Saint-Denis-du-Payr - A beautiful spot for bird watching in the marshes.
  • Prehistoric Centre - CAIRN - A living museum full of activities illustrating the early life of man.
  • Muse Automobile de Vende - Over 200 vehicles displayed - 1885 to prototypes of the future.
  • Parc Floral de la Court dAron - Exotic park land with a unique lake of Lotus blooms.
  • Chateau de Barbe Bleu - Blue Beards castle - One of the greatest medieval sites in the region.
  • Le Potager Extraordinaire - A series of kitchen gardens with surprising plants!

There is something for everyone - come and join us in this delightful region.
